Hanna-Barbera Cartoon Series
Last updated: August 26, 2026
Hanna-Barbera releases have been inconsistent over the years. Major franchises like The Flintstones and Scooby-Doo have received comprehensive DVD treatment, while smaller series often get incomplete or budget releases.
DVD Collection Lines:
• Diamond Collection: Premium releases featuring restored episodes with enhanced audio and video quality, typically including bonus features and collector packaging
• Gold Key Collection: Mid-tier releases focusing on complete series with decent transfers but fewer extras
• Classic Collection: Budget-friendly releases that prioritize affordability over premium features
Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10: This special collection featured 10 complete made-for-TV movies from various Hanna-Barbera properties, showcasing theatrical-quality productions that originally aired as television specials. These films demonstrated the studio's ability to create feature-length content for their popular characters.
Warner Bros. has improved the situation since acquiring the catalog, with better transfers and more complete collections. However, music rights issues still prevent some early cartoons from receiving full releases.
The Flintstones
Complete Original SeriesThe Flintstones originally aired from 1960-1966 as the first prime-time animated series. It spawned multiple spin-offs including Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm (1971-1972), The Flintstones Comedy Hour (1972-1973), and Fred Flintstone and Friends (1977-1978). The original 166-episode series is available complete on DVD, while spin-offs have limited availability.
Flintstone episodes were also used in several compilation shows, which are not reflected here

The Jetsons
CompleteThe Jetsons originally aired one season on ABC between 1962 and 1963. It was revived for two more seasons between 1985 and 1987. All three seasons are available in a complete collection on DVD. However, only the 1960s episodes are available on Blu-ray.
The Jetsons had a handful of movies released on the tail of the 1985 reboot. Two of these films are featured in the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 collection, which is a good purchase if all Hanna Barbera cartoons are being pursued.
Shockingly, in 2017 a direct-to-film colloboration with the WWE resulted in the first Jetsons IP in 27 years.

Tom and Jerry
Complete Original SeriesTom and Jerry had several releases with different studios which complicates a comprehensive collection. There have been several starts and stops in releasing a comprehensive, uncensored collection of Tom and Jerry shorts. Acquiring all of the shorts currently requires purchasing three collections - one for each of Tom & Jerry's eras.
Between 1940 and 1958, Hanna-Barbera produced 114 shorts. All 114 shorts are avaiable on Blu-ray as the Golden Anthology. This is a welcome relief from the debacle that was releasing the shorts on DVD; 112 of the shorts were released on DVD as the Hanna-Barbera Spotlight Collection - the collection omitted "Mouse Cleaining" and "Cassanova Cat". Warner Bros intended to release all of the 1940-1958 shorts in chronological order as the Golden Collection. The Golden Collection used newly restored transfers from CRI negatives instead of the Spotlight's broadcast television prints and planned on including the two omitted shorts on Volume 2. However, the Golden Collection was shelved after releasing only 37 shorts on Volume 1. The two omitted shorts are available on the European released Tom and Jerry: The Classic Collection, a Region 2 DVD set. Learn more about DVD region locking. The Spotlight Collection included 23 Cinemascope shorts in the standard Academy ratio instead of their native widescreen format - these shorts were rereleased as the Cinemascope Collection in the proper widescreen format.
Between 1961-1962, 13 Tom and Jerry shorts were directed by Gene Deitch and animated by Rembrandt Films in Prague. All 13 shorts were released on DVD as the Tom and Jerry Gene Deitch Collection.
In 1963, Tom and Jerry returned to Hollywood where Chuck Jones produced 34 more shorts between 1963 and 1967. All 34 shorts were released on DVD as the Tom and Jerry: Chuck Jones Collection.
The shorts spun off several television cartoons with mixed availability.
